.45 ACP Hydrashock rounds, or .45 ACP Hydroshock, are an improved variant of the .45 ACP FMJ rounds featured in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat.
General characteristics[]
The .45 ACP Hydra-Shock is a hollow-point round that originally had an armor-piercing steel penetrator inside. It is superior in every way to the standard .45 ACP FMJ. The tip's pre-notched edge enhances and controls the hollow-cavity-tipped bullet's expansion in tissue while the steel penetrator passes through cover or body armor. It deals significantly more damage to unarmored or lightly armored targets and has over twice the penetration against light cover and heavy armor alike. The rounds are also slightly lighter, making air resistance less of an issue in aiming. However, they are much rarer then standard .45ACP, and the rarest of all the pistol caliber munitions.

Shadow of Chernobyl[]

In Shadow of Chernobyl, Hydro-shock rounds are all around more effective than .45 ACP FMJ rounds, offering better stopping power and penetration. However, their effective range is reduced by 5% and they cause weapon to degrade 15% faster compared to standard .45 ACP ammunition.
Locations[]
These rounds are rare, but Skinflint can sell them after completing the Deal with the snitch mission for Lukash. Colonel Petrenko can also carry them if the player is in very good standing with Duty. They appear in some stashes and can be found in boxes on the rooftops of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. A few boxes appear in the cabin where the Insane stalker from the Freedom faction is found in the Army Warehouses, and several ones can be found in a metal box on top of a cargo container near the barrier in the same area. Additionally, most Monolith fighters carry these rounds along with the armor piercing variants of other calibres.

Clear Sky[]
A Hydro-Shock round with improved characteristics for the Kora-919 and SIP-t M200 pistols. The Hydro comes with a hollow point bullet that provides good stopping power.

In Clear Sky, Hydro rounds are fairly similar to standard .45 ACP ammunition except that they feature a 20% increase in stopping power.
Locations[]
These bullets are even more rare in Clear Sky, since no trader sells them and no NPC uses them. The only way to get these rounds is from stashes, usually the ones the player can buy the coordinates off of traders.
Call of Pripyat[]
This unusual .45 ACP caliber round is comprised of a jacketed soft point bullet with an expanding hollow and a steel core. It is a combination of jacketed expanding soft point and armor piercing bullets, benefiting, from the advantages of both and, suffering from their downsides.

In Call of Pripyat, Hydrashock rounds boast a large increase in stopping power (50%) compared to the standard .45 ACP rounds. In addition, unlike in Clear Sky, they also feature improved penetration and armor penetration.
Locations[]
Some stashes include these bullets in good amounts (up to 100). Hawaiian may sell them after siding with either Freedom or Duty. They are also commonly sold by Owl. In Pripyat, the player can periodically receive 50 rounds from Kirillov by asking for .45 ammunition.
Trivia[]
- The Cyrillic script in the upper left corner of the packaging reads Poluoboloch-Broneboin'ie, which stands for "Soft-Point, Armor-Piercing".
- The English acronym on the packaging JSP-AP stands for "Jacketed Soft-Point, Armor-Piercing".
- The packaging lists the HK USP Compact, Colt M1911A1, and SIG-220, indicating which weapons are chambered for the ammo.
- Hydro-shocks is a direct reference to a type of self-defense ammunition called the "Hydra-Shok" created by a popular ammunition company called "Federal premium". The in-game model for the box is completely original and bears no resemblance to the federal brand and sports the name of three 45. caliber pistols in the game with their copyrighted name IE, SIG P220, Colt 1911A1, and H&K USP compact.
