Army Warehouses is an abandoned area, taking its name from the military base located within its limits. It's one of the few direct access points to the centre of the Zone

Background
Edit
A strategically important area, the vicinity of the army base used to contain a small rural village and passageway to the radar facility north of it. After the 1986 incident, the population of the village was evacuated and the base repurposed to act as a center for military forces securing the Zone of Exclusion. Following the fall of the Soviet Union, Ukrainian State Security Service units were garrisoned in the base, continuing the mission of securing the area. It is unknown if there was any significant relations between The Group and the military garrison.
Some time before the second incident in 2006 a large scale construction effort was started in the area. However, the incident cut such efforts short; workers abandoned their vehicles, leaving behind their vehicles and raw supplies. The area became truly abandoned, with mutants and other wildlife quickly moving in. However, once the military was able to reach deeper into the Zone, they once again reoccupied the warehouses and erected The Barrier, to keep the more gruesome Zone abominations contained. They were doing a decent job, right until the Second Emission, during which much of their force was killed. The soldiers retreated to the military base and bunkered down, constantly requesting evacuation to no avail.
Freedom exploited their weakness and secured the base for themselves, as well as picking up the duty to maintain and defend the Barrier. After losing their primary base in Dark Valley, the army warehouses area became the center of Freedom operations and one of the most heavily defended locations across the entire Zone.
Layout
Edit
Dominated by an abandoned army base in the south where Freedom has set up shop, the Army Warehouses acts as the buffer between the flow of mutants and Monolith Zealots coming from the Red Forest. The abandoned houses west of the Army Base are host to both Dutyers and Loners. An eerily deserted village is located to the west of the center, where Bloodsuckers alone are legion. Stalker camps lie east and north of the village, with the Swamps even further east, and to the north west, Mercenaries have set up their camp.
The Barrier, the only thing standing between the hordes of Monolithians and Mutants and the rest of the Zone, stands to the north-eastern edge of the region. Previously occupied by the Military, then by Freedom, left to hold back Monolith's advances alone.
Appearances
Edit
Shadow of Chernobyl
Edit
The Army Warehouses area is referred to as "Army base" in the PDA Encyclopaedia, and as the "Military" or "Army" Warehouses in dialogue. As indicated in the description, the Army Warehouses are the main base of the Freedom faction. There is a hut in the middle of the swamp by the Freedom base with a Stalker named "Insane stalker from the Freedom faction", who, while classified as part of the Bandits faction, acts and sounds as if he were Zombified when approached. The Insane Stalker is killed as part of a task given by Max to acquire a Flash Drive, with the reward of a Black Kite(but gives Walther P99 instead). The hut itself holds a Wind of Freedom Suit, 2 anti-radiation drugs and approximately 50 rounds of .45ACP ammo.
Clear Sky
Edit
The area remains much the same in Clear Sky, with Loners defending the barrier from Monolith attacks, and a small Military presence in the base. The Military are rapidly pushed out of the base by Scar and a Freedom squad, who intend to make it their new base. In the Bloodsucker Village is a Merc team led by Hog, who are searching for their comrades trapped in a Space Anomaly. Scar assists Them in order to free Leshiy's Mercenary team, who can lower the bridge to Limansk From Red Forest
Enemies & Mutants
Edit
Being the home of the Freedom headquarters, you'll find a large number of Freedom members at the HQ and near the Border/Barrier area to the north-east. The Bloodsucker Village has it's name for a reason, and you'll initially be able to find five or six Bloodsuckers there; in later stages of the game, you may also encounter a Controller. Mercs have a small outpost to the north-west, guarding the entrance to their headquarters, known as the Dead City, which the player cannot enter. The area has almost every other mutant in it, especially near the Border/Barrier area – these include Blind Dogs, Bloodsuckers, Boars, Fleshes and Pseudodogs.
