Since man caused this mess in the first place, man may well be the only one able to set it right. In any event, I very much hope that is the case...
― Beanpolev

Professor E.F. Kalancha (Russian: Профессор Каланча), known in-game as Beanpolev, is a scientist working for the Clear Sky faction in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky.

Background[]

His origins are unknown apart from having been part of a research team at Lab X-8 together with Lebedev and Docent Suslov, as revealed in the Order of Transfer (where he is referred to as E.F. Kalancha) found in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat.

Cold describes him as a walking calculator and encyclopedia in one and knows more about the Zone than anyone else.

Appearances[]

Clear Sky[]

Professor Kalancha is first seen during a cinematic when he is observing Scar and puzzled that he cannot explain nor understand how he survived the large emission. He then walks out of the room and resumes work in his laboratories after Lebedev further interviews Scar. Professor Kalancha does not do much afterwards but offer his explanations about the Zone, as well as some of the goals of Clear Sky.

Dialogue[]

Quote Audio
Greetings

Can I help you?

*hums* Oh, I didn't notice you come in.

Ah, it's you.

Farewell

If you need me, you know where to find me.

If that is all, I'd better get back to my work.

Hopefully my answers will be of help to us all.

Trivia[]

  • Beanpolev's facial features were taken from photos of GSC's physics programmer — Konstantin Slipchenko[1].
  • Professor Kalancha's name may have been translated to Beanpolev since Kalancha - Каланча - in Russian can be translated as "beanpole", and this is something one would call someone when talking about a tall thin person. However, given that the file name for him is "Kalancha", this translation is obviously erroneous.
  • It is odd for him to refer to Scar as "young man", considering that Scar seems to be quite old.
