Fang (Ru. Клык) is a character mentioned in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat.

Background[]

He spoke with a slight stutter and talked to himself, making other stalkers a bit uncomfortable in his presence, but overall, he was considered to be a level-headed guy[quote. 1].

A member of Strelok's Group and one of Strelok's closest friends, Fang seemed to be well versed in technology, as he is known to have used an exoskeleton with enhanced night vision, among others. Together with Strelok and another stalker, Ghost, Fang made an incursion into the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, but the group was forced to retreat after encountering a code-locked door inside the Sarcophagus. Strelok sustained severe injuries on the way back; Fang insisted that there was nothing they could do for him and to leave him behind[quote. 2], but Ghost argued against it, and both men eventually took Strelok to Doctor for medical attention.

Ghost and Fang began working on a decoding device to unlock the door they had previously encountered. Fang began scouring the Zone for components to put the device together, namely running into Sidorovich[quote. 3], the diggers in the Garbage, and Chekhov[quote. 4]. At the Garbage, Fang was ambushed by bandits but managed to escape, leaving his PDA behind. Fang eventually assembled two decoders, using the components he had gathered previously[quote. 5], and hiding one in the Pripyat Hotel[quote. 6]. The group's actions had not went unnoticed however, and they began being pursued by the Clear Sky faction. Clear Sky's agent Scar managed to track down Fang up until the ambush point at the Garbage, where he found a log putting him on Strelok's lead.

Fang eventually reunited with Ghost and intended to go towards the center of the Zone, and escape their Clear Sky pursuers. Ultimately, a trio of hired mercenaries ambushed the pair at the Army Warehouses. While they managed to kill two of them, the third one, who was hiding 100 meters away, took a shot at Fang with his Vintar BC sniper rifle, killing him[quote. 7]. Fang was later buried in the area by Ghost.

Appearances[]

Shadow of Chernobyl[]

Fang's cross

Fang's supposed grave in the Bloodsucker village. The word "Клык" or "Fang" can be found in the center.

Fang does not appear in the game but is heard or mentioned several times throughout the story. Fang's grave can be found in the Army Warehouses, near the Bloodsucker village, to the southwest of the hamlet. The grave states Fang's year of birth to be 1971, but also strangely notes that he died in 2018, despite the game being set in 2012.

Another grave allegedly belonging to Fang can be found in Pripyat, south of the Palace of Culture. This grave contains a stash, Fang's goodies, which contains the unique Exoskeleton PNB-4UZ. This makes the location of Fang's actual grave ambiguous, as only one the one in Pripyat is formally identified as such, though given the fact Fang was killed in the Army Warehouses, it would have been more likely for him to be buried in the vicinity. It is possible however that this was an oversight on the developer's part, an abandoned story concept, or that there were more than one stalker who was nicknamed Fang (in fact, given how numerous the population of the Zone is, it is unlikely that everyone can get their own, unique nickname).

Clear Sky[]

Fang does not appear in the game, but is mentioned several times in dialogue. Scar's first objective after leaving the Swamps is to track him down, but after finding his PDA in the Garbage, he is ordered to give up on him and go after Strelok instead, while Clear Sky takes care of both Ghost and Fang.

Call of Pripyat[]

Fang is mentioned in notes found in three stashes in Jupiter. In one of them, Strelok left behind his weapon with instructions for Fang to give it to Ghost if he didn't make it back from the sarcophagus, but none of them ever retrieved it. Another note, left by Fang, was meant to inform Strelok that one of the decoders was hidden inside the Hotel in Pripyat. If the player brings the notes to Strelok at the end of the game, he will mention Fang being one of his friends and that he was killed by mercenaries[quote. 8].

Quote Condition

Just leave him, there is nothing we can do for him. The blowout is minutes away and we won't get through with him.

Trivia[]

  • In Shadow of Chernobyl, Ghost notes that the mercenary who killed Fang had a Vintar BC, with "a big scar on his face" and "hazel eyes", which makes his description suspiciously similar to Scar's. However, it is known from the plot of Clear Sky that Scar never encountered Fang, as he was instructed by Lebedev to not pursue him and go after Strelok instead, with Clear Sky taking care of him and Ghost.
    • According to the developers of Clear Sky, it was initially planned for Scar to kill Fang, but this was unimplemented. In Call of Pripyat, Strelok simply mentions that Fang was killed by mercenaries, meaning that neither Scar or Clear Sky (directly) were involved in the shooting.

  3. S.T.A.L.K.E.R Sidorovich: "About your stalker - he was here. His name is Fang, and he was looking for tube amplifiers and some other electronic crap... I'm not an expert in that sort of thing. I sold him the amp, but I didn't have the other stuff he was after, so I told him to visit the diggers at the Garbage."

  5. S.T.A.L.K.E.R PDA in the hideout: "Fang and I found all the parts we need and put together two decoders."
  6. S.T.A.L.K.E.R A note to Strelok: "Strelok, I've left the other decoder in our Pripyat stash just in case. Me and Ghost are heading to Agroprom, so we'll leave our extra ammo here. Take it if you need it. Happy hunting! Fang."
  7. S.T.A.L.K.E.R Strelok's flash drive: "Strelok, I have some shitty news. Fang died. They were waiting for us in the village by the warehouses, and I think they were waiting a long time. Three of them. Seems like your average neutrals. Fang sensed them somehow. You know full well he has a good sense. We ran two of the down - clearly bandits - but the third turned out smarter than his buddies. He was sitting with Vintar about 100 meters away. Anyway, there's no more Fang. "
  8. S.T.A.L.K.E.R Strelok: "Fang was my friend... Together with Ghost and Fang we managed to get past the Scorcher and reach the CNPP... After our return from the center, we parted company - I was wounded and stayed with the Doctor at the swamps. I didn't see them again... It wasn't until much later that I had learned that Fang was killed by mercs and Ghost died because he trusted the scientists..."
