The Fault is a type of anomaly cluster featured in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat.

Appearance[]

The first type of Fault appears to be a Burner anomaly field, but features large cracks on the surface of the Earth. Cracks within the Fault releases intense heat, which in turn results in lethally high ambient temperatures within the vicinity of the Fault. The second type has a similar apperance, but features gravity-based anomalies.

The Fault is considered an anomaly because the Chernobyl area is not an active area from a either tectonic or volcanic point of view. The extensive underground tunnel network featured in all three games suggests that the Fault is a crack in these underground networks, above what further investigation suggests is a massive or highly concentrated cluster of Burners and various heat based anomalies, that has grown intense enough to burst the soil and create a natural vent.

Clear Sky[]

A Fault anomaly makes its first apperance in the Swamps, located northeast of the Machine yard. It appears as cracks in the ground, and the player's screen will turn bright red when Scar gets too close. Stepping over one of the cracks will drain the player's health very fast, so caution is advised. Another Fault can be found in the Dark Valley, where gravitational anomalies are present.

Call of Pripyat[]

Two Faults appear in Zaton. The first is known as the Boiler anomaly, and features temperatures that aren't nearly as high as Burner fields, but instead of shooting up fire when activated, it shoots up steam of extreme temperatures. Effects are similar to Burner anomalies. The cracks are much deeper than a normal Fault, and their bases contain boiling water. The second is known as the Circus Anomaly, which features a normal Fault with the same artifacts as the Boiler, but includes two moving Comets running circles in opposite directions around the Fault. The third one is located in Yanov and called Bitumen Anomaly, belonging to the second type. Is is by far the biggest one, with traversible cracks. The last Fault is located in Pripyat and is known as the Volcano. It essentially is a large cluster of Burner anomalies in a crater in the middle of a basketball court. It is the only one without the ambient heat.

Artifacts[]

Since Faults of Type 1 consist of Burner and Boiler anomalies, Burner-related artifacts can be found in any Fault. Therefore, any of the following artifacts can spawn:

The Fault of Type 2 has got two forms of anomalies, so one may find one of the following from the associated gravitational or thermal parent anomaly.
