The "Bear" detector is a more advanced anomaly and artifact detector featured in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat.
Overview[]
Unlike the Echo detector, the Bear now shows the direction of the artifact and distance with an audio cue. Its direction can be found in the lit bars on a circular light display along with the beeping of the Echo detector as one gets closer to the artifact. Overall this is a very good starter detector since it has longer range compared to the Echo and provides a quicker and safer trip of hazardous artifact hunting.
Its primary limitation is it can only detect one artifact at a time. Thus, a player will have to be sure that they obtained all artifacts within a cluster of anomalies. As such, this is time consuming but is still more reliable than the outdated Echo detector.

This anomalous activity detector, with a built-in Geiger counter, can also be used to locate artifacts. In addition to measuring the distance to an artifact, it can indicate its direction as well. When closed, the device registers only radiation and anomalies. To switch to artifact search mode, raise the device's front cover (antennae).

The Bear detector normally costs 2000 RU but a free one is given to the player after joining the Loners faction.
The player can obtain a Bear Detector at the Great Swamps by achieving a maximum reputation with the Clear Sky faction and buying it from Docent Suslov for 1000 RU.
Call of Pripyat[]
The last generation of anomalous activity detector can be used to locate anomalous formations and has a color diode panel, which not only indicates the direction of artifacts, but also measures the distance to them. To switch to artifact search mode, open the device's front cover. Unfortunately the device is programmed with a somewhat outdated list of detectable artifacts.

Bear detectors can also be found on Loners with Sunrise suits, or Zombified Stalkers. A Bear Detector can be bought from Owl for 1600 RU and can be found on experienced Loners and Zombified Stalkers.
The player can also obtain the detector very early in the game by saving or killing Petruha near the Boiler Anomaly (provided the player's current detector is a Echo detector, else he'll give the player a Fireball that he has just found).
