The Pripyat 1 underpass is a location that appears only in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat.

Description[]

The Pripyat 1 underpass can be accessed from the Jupiter plant, which is located in the area around Jupiter. Before entering this location, the player must acquire the Underpass Schematics and then assemble a team of at least one, maximum of four other stalkers. A suit with a closed cycle respiratory module is a necessity due to the harsh conditions of this underground.

Unlike previous underground levels, this is a rather large but straightforward "tunnel". It contains several large rooms with very high ceilings, as well as a few tight corridors. It is home to several different anomalies, including Vortex anomalies.

History[]

Pripyat 1 was built some time before the events of Call of Pripyat, in order to connect the Jupiter factory and Yanov station to Pripyat and other areas of the Zone. The tunnel is comprised of a railway line, which is connected to Yanov Station and the Northwestern tunnel through the Eastern tunnel, most likely as part of the Zone's global railway network. It also possesses a road for vehicles. The tunnel can also be accessed by means of an elevator in the Jupiter factory itself.

Pripyat 1 was used to transport a large amount of valuable cargo, as suggested by the large number of abandoned vehicles inside. It was namely used during development of Item 62, in order to move various components of the project rather than above ground. Some time after the project's termination in 2004, the Jupiter plant personnel was ordered to seal the tunnel for good. The underpass was used to evacuate the project's most valuable equipment and documents before all doors were welded shut and the tunnel itself was filled with carbon dioxide mixed with chemical agents. In spite of the heavily toxic environment, the underpass eventually became home to dangerous mutants (mostly snorks and rodents), Zombified Stalkers and some Monolith stalkers.

Stalkers within the Zone and the Jupiter area itself seem to be oblivious to the underpass' existence, although there are several rumors that the underpass in fact exists[1]. During the events of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat, Major Degtayrev discovers the tunnel's existence while searching through the Jupiter factory after being informed of the tunnel's possible existence by Pilot. After gathering all the necessary schematics, Degtyarev assembles a team comprised of himself, Zulu and up to three additional members: Lieutenant Sokolov, Vano and Strider. With the help of the local technician Nitro, Degtyarev and his team access the underpass through an elevator in the Jupiter factory. Fighting their way through numerous mutants, zombies and Monolith fighters, Degtyarev and his teammates eventually reach Pripyat where he links up with the survivors of Operation Fairway. The tunnel is permanently rendered inaccessible after the player's trip, although some stalkers tried to re-open it in vain[2].

Enemies[]

The Underpass is a rather difficult level, especially if the player wishes to keep their squadmates alive, which is a necessity in order to get more positive endings. There are a large number of Snorks in several rooms and a handful of Rodents, as well as a few hordes of Zombified Stalkers. The Monolith will also ambush the player and their teammates multiple times halfway through.

Walkthrough[]

Loot[]

There are numerous items scattered throughout the underpass. Below is a non-exhaustive list of the items that can be found in the tunnel.

Mutants tunnels[]

  • In the back of the truck directly in front of the player when entering the underground, there is a SPSA-14 with 4 buckshot rounds loaded alongside 30 rounds of 12x70 Buckshot and 15 rounds of 12x76 Slug.
  • After reaching the intersection with the large road, in the cabin of the firetruck, an army medkit and a vinca can be found.
  • Behind the truck directly in front of the firetruck, there are two first-aid kits and two bandages laying on the ground.
  • When heading towards the large door that must be opened, on the front seat of a UAZ-469 is a Black Kite with 100 rounds of .45 ACP FMJ and 50 rounds of .45 ACP Hydroshock.
  • After opening the large door and the ambient environment becomes corrosive, there is another UAZ with a scientific medkit, two first-aid kits and two bandages.
  • After getting past the two BTR-70s, there is a truck with 100 rounds of 7.62x54mm PP and 90 rounds of 9x39mm PAB-9 in the cabin.
  • A little further past the truck is yet another UAZ with an army medkit, vinca, antidote, Cossacks vodka and energy drink.
  • Past the UAZ is a few damaged trucks with a cluster of Whirligig anomalies. The first one has 120 rounds of 5.45x39mm FMJ in the cabin, with an additional 120 rounds of 5.45x39mm FMJ and 5.45x39mm BP, alongside two RGD-5 grenades and one F1 grenade.
  • After getting past the anomalies, when heading south towards the objective, look towards the right-hand wall; there is a device on the wall with a PSO-1 scope, a F1 and RGD-5 grenades laying on the ground to the left.
  • Before opening the second airtight door, there is a red container left of the doorway with 120 rounds of 5.56x45mm AP inside. Between the container itself and the adjacent wall, are 120 rounds of 5.56x45mm SS109.
  • After opening the door and getting down the first flight of stairs, there are two RGD-5 and F1 grenades in the corner on the left.
  • After opening the third door and entering another tunnel, to the right is a ventilation shaft with a rotating fan; behind it are two first-aid kits, a scientific medkit, an army medkit, a vinca, antidote, bandage, vodka bottle and energy drink.

Railway tunnel[]

  • After getting past the aforementioned tunnel, the player will enter a large railroad tunnel where a number of snorks will attack. Directly in front of the player when entering the tunnel is a tanker car with 120 rounds of 5.56x45mm SS190 and 60 rounds of 5.56x45mm AP under one of the bogies.
  • Further along the tunnel towards the next doors is a green locomotive. Laying against the door to the cabin is a AC-96/2 with 120 rounds of 5.45x39mm BP. There are also 120 FMJ rounds near the door to the cabin on the other side.
  • Past the locomotive is an open boxcar, in which there is a footlocker with 40 rounds of 12x70 Buckshot and 20 rounds of 12x76 Slug.

Dome room[]

  • To left of the room leading to the control room, there is a small adjacent room, in which there is a footlocker with a SEVA suit, 10 rounds of 7.62x54mm 7N1 and an antidote.
  • To the right of the control room is a small container storage area. One of the containers has a Jellyfish, two bottles of vodka and an energy drink. The Jellyfish must be revealed with a detector.
  • Near the stairs leading to the control room, there is a table with two first-aid kits, a scientific medkit and two bandages.
  • After opening the control room, there is an overturned table with an army medkit, Hercules, vinca and antidote.
  • When looking at the large container storage area (where the first wave of Monolith stalkers spawn) with the damaged roof section above, there are the remains of a truck cabin on the right-hand side. Inside the cabin is a RGD-5 grenade and two F1 grenades.
  • There are two OG-7V warheads on top of a red container to the left of a doorway leading to the backroom of the storage area.
  • Inside the backroom itself is a shelf with a silencer, two energy drinks and a Meat Chunk.

Zombies tunnels[]

  • After getting past the tunnel with acidic anomalies and opening the door, to the left is 10 rounds of 12x76 Slug and 15 rounds of 12x70 Buckshot.
  • While fighting through the waves of zombified stalkers, the player will arrive in a large room in the sewer area with a long hallway on the left leading towards the exit of the tunnel. On the right is a small room, inside of which is a footlocker with 60 rounds of 9x39mm PAB-9, 120 rounds of 5.56x45mm SS190, 60 rounds of 5.45x39mm BP and 60 rounds of 5.56x45mm AP.
  • Go into the long hallway but rather than heading towards the exit, go the opposite way towards a large grate blocking the path (left instead of right when leaving the aforementioned room with ammo). Behind the bars are two scientific medkits, three first-aid kits and bandages.
  • Near the exit, there is a campfire with several pieces of concrete pipes around. There are two F1 and RGD-5 grenades by the pipes.

Notes[]

  • The Pripyat Underground was going to be featured in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky and is playable in Build 3120, where it is nearly identical to the model in Call of Pripyat. The level was cut from the game, but Lebedev still mentions it in Limansk and the Deserted hospital.
  • Unlike the other levels of the game, the Pripyat 1 underpass is entirely linear and is only accessible during the related main story mission. After completing the first part of Unidentified weapon, Garry becomes able to escort the player in and out of Pripyat. The Jupiter Underground remains completely inaccessible, as the Pripyat entrance of the underpass is blocked off by concrete and the elevator at the Jupiter factory is no longer operational, as mentioned in a conversation with Nitro[3].
  • Interestingly, Vano is seen guiding the team through anomalies with a Veles detector, even though only the Svarog detector would be capable of doing that.
  • A suit with a closed cycle breathing module is needed to get into the Pripyat Underground. The SEVA suit is the only one that qualifies. However, while it is mandatory to keep a SEVA suit to go to the Underground, wearing it is, strictly speaking, not required. It is possible for the player to survive the gaseous hazards by wearing a Meat Chunk artifact in their artifact container. Doing this using the Sunrise Suit, or another lightweight suit, upgraded to a carrying capacity of 60 kg potentially expands the amount of loot the player is able to carry from the tunnels. However, it should be noted that the gas can easily deteriorate the player's armor condition. After opening the final blast door into the main chamber, the toxic gas safely dissipates and protection is no longer required.
  • When entering the area where the Monolith are going to ambush the group, Vano will say "Mess with the best, die like the rest", which is a common saying among the United States Marine Corps.

  1. Stalkers in Jupiter: "Well, rumor has it that there are secret tunnels to Pripyat underneath the Jupiter plant... The thing is, these rumors usually get told after the second round, and then Jupiter is such a friggin' nightmare that nobody dares goes near it."
  2. Stalkers about recent events: "I should be asking you that. After you went into those tunnels beneath Jupiter, we heard rumors you reached as far as the center of the Zone. Caused a real turmoil. Got a dozen people itching to follow in your footsteps. Nitro cooled them off, though - he said the tunnel gates closed shut and he couldn't do nothing to reopen them. Sure, we had a few desperados who wanted to blow up the gate, but they're still trying to work out where to get enough dynamite and how they're going to breathe once they actually get down there."
  3. Degtyarev: "When we got into the underpass the elevator stopped working.."
Nitro: "Hah, you went down using the only operational generator... And it's the backup one at that. I barely got it working, so it did its job done and then died. You should be grateful it didn't go out halfway... That elevator doesn't have an emergency exit!"
