Hatchet: You're not welcome here. This is our camp, and you've got no business prowling around it. My boys are too starved and high-strung as it is...
Degtyarev: I could bring you some food.
Hatchet: Hah! 'Kay, you do that. Canned meat, sausage and bread... Six of each. Make sure to bring enough to go around, 'cause we're hungry as shit.

― Major Degtyarev meeting Hatchet

Food is a side mission available in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat.

Description[]

As the player approaches the Substation Workshop in Zaton, a Mercenary named Hatchet (Slasher in some translations) will halt the player, saying that they don't want anyone in their camp, and grumble that he and his team are hungry for some regular food. Should autosave be enabled, the game will automatically save here. The player can offer to bring food: six of either Diet Sausage, Tourist's Delight, or Bread will do to complete this quest. The Mercenaries will warn the player to holster weapons before entering.

Despite Hatchet saying six of each food item, only six food items overall of any of the three are actually needed, meaning one could scrounge up enough food from stashes even before going to the Skadovsk. Once the player has enough food, they can bring Hatchet the supplies to complete the mission.

Reward[]

Completing this mission provides unhindered access to the Substation Workshop (as long as the player keeps their weapon holstered while in the vicinity), where the player can grab some Tools for fine work. There is also a stash inside the derelict vehicle north of the building. As well, it allows the player to recruit Hatchet to protect Professor Hermann's bunker later in the game.

Alternatively, it is possible to use the trust of the mercenaries to assault them from within their camp where cover is plentyful. By making use of it's linear structure, it is possible to funnel most of the enemies towards the backyard while staying behind boxes or the outer wall. This presents a convenient opportunity to acquire some NATO weaponry early in the game.

Notes[]

  • The player must be careful not to approach the area with a weapon out as it will cause Hatchet's squad to turn hostile, even in the surroundings.
