Freeman (Ru. Фримен) is a minor character in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl.

Background[]

Scientist, expert on anomalous phenomena. Worked in America on top secret projects. Reported missing for a while now[non-game. 1].

After an unspecified work in "Mesa" and an unnamed Russian city, Freeman was sent to the Zone on January 12th, 2012. He found it hard to adapt to the Zone's environment, noting that he had to sell his crowbar for a can of meat. On April 26th, 2012, Freeman found himself trapped in a tunnel in the Wild Territory during an emission. He planned to wait for some time in the tunnel, but eventually met his end there[quote. 1].

Appearances[]

Shadow of Chernobyl[]

Freeman is dead by the events of the game, his body can be found inside the Electro tunnel in the Wild Territory. Access to his body is hindered by the large number of electro anomalies inside the tunnel. Freeman carries a Black Kite pistol on his body, and looting him also adds the "Gordon's PDA" log entry to the player's PDA. He is not featured in any mission.

  • He was the target of a cut mission, Find the foreigner's gun, given by Barkeep. This mission would've required the player to fetch Freeman's Black Kite and bring it back to Barkeep for a reward. The mission's name and description can be found in the game's string tables[non-game. 2].

Trivia[]

  • Freeman is a reference to Gordon Freeman, the protagonist of Valve's Half-Life series. His PDA entry contains several additional references:
    • The crowbar is a reference to Freeman's signature weapon in the series.
    • "Mesa" is a reference to the organization Black Mesa.
    • The "strange town in Russia" is likely a reference to City 17, the architecture of which resembles Eastern European and Soviet designs.

But anyway, that’s not the point. He did vanish somewhere in the Zone eventually. But he had this rather curious thing, the Black Kite. If I could just take a closer look at it..."
