Guide (Ru. Проводник) is a Loner who appears in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. He is also mentioned in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat.

Background[]

A living legend of sorts. They say he can take you to absolutely any place in the Zone. His services are costly and not available to just anyone. If he doesn't like you, he won't take you for all the money in the world. A veteran, has been through the length and breadth of the Zone[non-game. 1].

He is alleged to know every location of the Zone and can slip past the most dangerous anomalies and sneak past the largest groups of enemies[quote. 1]. According to folklore, Guide is credited as the first true stalker in existence. Some folks say it is nearly impossible to find him, while others even deny his existence. Stalkers are in fact persuaded that he has found a safe route through the Red Forest, past the Brain Scorcher[quote. 2].

It is also said that Guide was acquainted with Strelok's Group and helped them reach the center of the Zone several times.

Appearances[]

Shadow of Chernobyl[]

Guide appears at the Farmstead ruins in the Cordon, sitting at a campfire with Fox and other stalkers, after the player retrieves the Documents from Lab X16. If the player searched through Strelok's hideout in the Agroprom Underground beforehand, they will automatically receive a new mission to inquire about Doctor's whereabouts from him. Guide, suspicious of the player's identity, only points out that Strelok would know where to find him[quote. 3].

Guide may die before the player gets a chance to talk to him, but his PDA will provide the necessary information in that scenario. He does not play any further role in the story, and just remains at the campfire for the rest of the game.

Call of Pripyat[]

Guide does not appear in Call of Pripyat, but is mentioned several times in dialogue. He was the one that met Colonel Kovalsky's squad after their helicopter crash-landed at the Jupiter helipads, and offered them to lead them safely to Pripyat, parting ways with the military peacefully after reaching the Laundromat[quote. 4]. Later on, Strelok reveals that Guide told him about the military's presence in Pripyat, and showed him how to get there safely via an underground route[quote. 5].

  2. S.T.A.L.K.E.R Arena manager: "You heard of him? No? Oh man, he was the first stalker! Ever! He was the first person to walk the Zone and that's why they call him the Guide. He knows this hellhole like the back of his hand, and even if the Zone changes after an emission, the Guide can still take you where you need to go, no problemo. The guy is a real talent, it's like he's got a sixth sense or something. Trouble is, finding him is hard enough, and on top of that he doesn't help everyone, and only the Black Stalker knows why he helps some but refuses others. One thing you can be sure of though, if he agrees to take you somewhere, you're in for a real smooth journey - relax, sit back and enjoy the ride. Anyway, I sure as hell would like to talk to him - I bet he knows what's beyond the radar, he must have been there at some point, no doubt about it."
  1. S.T.A.L.K.E.R Strelok: "He's a legendary stalker - they say he can lead you anywhere in the Zone... The army boys are lucky to have met him - they wouldn't have lived long without him."
  2. S.T.A.L.K.E.R Superconductor: "Have you heard about Guide? The very first true stalker. He was the one who originally broke into the Zone and he's still alive. People say he can take you to any place, you just need to name it. Now, finding him’s a bit tricky, ain’t no posters around with his address... And he won't go with just anybody, either. From what I hear, he charges quite a bit. But if you find him and have enough cash, you can rest assured he’ll take you where you need to go. Now, that’s someone I’d like to have a chat with. You can bet he's been past the Red Forest..."
  3. S.T.A.L.K.E.R Guide: "Well, why didn't you say so! Doctor is in Strelok's hiding place. If you are who you say you are, you probably know where it is."
  4. S.T.A.L.K.E.R Kovalsky: "We met a stalker not far from the minefield. I think he must have heard the mine exploding. A strange guy... called himself Guide. He didn’t ask any questions and just offered to lead us to Pripyat. That suited our plan, so I agreed. We kept him in our sights just in case, but everything went smoothly... He didn't say a word until we reached the city, and when we did he just disappeared without warning. I ordered my men to leave him be."
  5. S.T.A.L.K.E.R Strelok: "Yes. I contacted a stalker called Guide. He told me how to get to this place via the underground tunnels."
