An intact Laz-42021 in Call of Pripyat
The LAZ-42021 is a Ukrainian-made bus designed for the middle class, optimized for transport within urban and surburban areas. The 42021 was put into production in 1978, and had a 5-speed manual/automatic transmission. Some of the flaws of this bus was the bulky engine mounted in the rear, and the ineffective insulation of the engine, which allowed Diesel fumes from the engine to leak out and go into the passenger compartment, forcing the passengers to breath the fumes.
In the zone, these buses are found nearly everywhere in the industrial and urban areas of the zone, most likely they were used to evacuate the residents of Chernobyl during the incident at the Chernobyl NPP.
