Hey. You want to listen to my stories too?
― Flint

Flint is a member of Freedom who appears in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat.

Background[]

Flint is a boisterous member of Freedom who resides in Yanov Station during the events of the game. In the past, he was a Loner known as Magpie. While in Zaton, he asked Gonta and his hunting crew to dispose of a controller that was preventing him from recovering his loot. Although the hunters accomplished their mission, they asked Magpie to pay for the job by accompanying them for a hunting trip that targeted a chimera on Trapper's behalf. Magpie's job was to keep a lookout for the chimera at the entrance of its lair, but he eventually betrayed the crew and ran away, stealing the hunters' loot in the process. In the ensuing confusion, Crab, one of the hunters, was severely injured by the chimera, which ran away once more.

By the time the game begins, he's already used the ill-gained proceeds to become a member of Freedom, and situates himself inside the station, regaling his comrades with tall tales of heroic, and usually misappropriated deeds.

Appearances[]

Call of Pripyat[]

Flint can be found at Yanov Station any time after the mission In Search of Magpie has been started, at the table in front of Vano on the Freedom side of the main hall. The first time the player visits Yanov, he will be heard telling a story about how he killed a controller, which in fact refers to the mutant that Gonta and his men killed on Magpie's behalf.

Afterwards, every time the player visits Yanov Station again, he can be heard telling another story, but it soon becomes apparent that he's appropriating the player's achievements. Every time he is done telling a story, the player may accuse him of lying, but this will only prompt Flint to tell the player off. The first time this is done, the mission False claims starts.

Eventually, after he is accused of lying thrice, he will tell a story about how he helped a group of hunters dispose of a chimera in Zaton, outing himself as Magpie. After this is done, the player may report him and his misdeeds to either Loki, Shulga or Gonta. Alternatively, after Magpie begins telling his stories, the player can encounter a dying stalker named Sliver in the Yanov Quarry, who reveals that Magpie left him to die after promising to look for help. Upon returning to the station, Flint can be heard telling a story about a artifact hunting trip which leads to the player accusing him of killing Sliver, resulting in Flint telling the player off and telling his story about the hunters in Zaton, exposing himself as well.

Regardless, once the mission In Search of Magpie has been completed and Flint has been denounced, he disappears from the game, presumably having been killed by either Freedom, local Loners or Gonta himself.

Related missions[]

  • In Search of Magpie: The player must force Flint to expose himself as Magpie to complete the mission.
  • False claims: Flint is appropriating the player's achievements, and they must deal with him.
  • Retribution: Sliver tells the player about Flint leaving him to die, which enables the player to accuse him.

Flint's stories[]

Story Condition

Okay, I'll tell you how to kill controllers. The other day, I chanced upon a buttload of artifacts and decided to stash them while still en route, 'cause my back couldn't hack it anymore. On the way back I got to my stash and there it was: a controller, chilling right on top of it. Now I thought to myself: "Controller or no controller, I got to get my shit back." Then I realized that if I shield myself with something, its manipulation bullshit won't work on me. So, I picked up a metal grate that I found lying around and started sneaking up on the beast. By the time it woke up to what was going on, I pumped off a clip into the cocksucker's head. Just as it started trying to control me, I gave it a final bash with my rifle butt, and that was that.

First visit at Yanov

I'll tell you everything there is to say about bloodsuckers. When I was at Zaton, those assholes made life real difficult for just about everyone. Stalkers kept at 'em day and night, but it didn't help one bit. Poor bastards. One day, I decided to help them out. So I took my shotgun and went straight for the bloodsucker lair. Three days I was partying with those sons of bitches, at times taking on two or even three together. After some quality time with yours truly, the bloodsucker problem at Zaton is all but over. The bastards keep their tentacles tucked in at all times.

Well, I'm sure you know about the path from Zaton... No? Well, the guide used to take a massive detour. What I did was create a shortcut by cutting across a straight line, a novel idea. I tried a few places and worked out the way through the anomalies pretty quick. So I sold that info to the guide, and now he takes everyone that way.

Complete Area Maps

You heard about the Oasis? Of course you've heard of it. I, on the other hand, have actually been there. I was the first person to work out the way to get there. A pioneer if you will. There ain't no mutants or friggin' anomalies there. It's quiet as a graveyard and full of artifacts. I was there only a few days ago. Sunday, do you know that... Lead you there? Ha! Sorry, but I don't want it getting crowded. Nothing personal.

Complete Oasis

Well, I've got a lot of stories to tell. Did I tell you about my time working for the scientists? So, one day I go and pop in to their bunker, real curious to see what they're up to in there. At first they're all in shock. But then they go: "You're exactly what we need right now." It turns out they wanted to set up their devices under anomalies. Obviously, the eggheads didn't feel like doing it themselves, so they promised me cash and other goodies. So I was like: "Well, that's fine, but the goodies better be worth it!" I had to crawl around that area looking for anomalies, but it wasn't half as hard as getting those nerds to fork up their award money.

Complete Anomaly research

You should have seen me getting this one artifact the other day. That was something. You know anything about the Quarry? Well, whatever decent shit there once was is long gone. There's no point looking in anomalies Flint has looked in. Everyone knows that.

Start Retribution, this story takes priority over any of the preceding ones

There might be a few folk who think that Flint is telling lies. Well, they can ask anyone at the base about me. Even this squad of pro hunters, when they spotted me the other day, they were all like: "We need you, Flint. We can't do it without you." They were hunting a Chimera so I had to show these "pros" how it's done. My MO is really freakin' simple: I just head straight into the lair. They left one rookie by the entrance to keep an eye out for it. Of course, come morning, soon as the newbie saw the beast he shat his pants and legged it. So I had to deal with it myself. Successfully, as you can see, heh heh heh heh heh.

Accuse Flint of lying thrice or tell him about Sliver, this will instantly cause him to tell this story and expose himself as Magpie
