Yeah, the wave of mutants that will crush and drive people from the Zone! And whatever poor bastards survive will be swept away by a ginormous emission!!! It will decimate every living thing in the Zone!... Except those who are prepared.
― Noah about the "wave"

Noah (Rus. Ной) is a Loner who appears only in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat.

Background[]

Noah is a hermit who appears to suffer from memory lapse and is extremely paranoid about mutant attacks. Most stalkers avoid contact with him, claiming he is insane and highly aggressive.

When conversed with, he will go on a tangent about a prophecy concerning a "wave" which will be in the form of a large emission followed immediately thereafter by a horde of mutants who will kill everyone who is ill-prepared. This, he reasoned, is why he built his 'ark' in the first place. According to local stalkers, he had illegals build the ark in a week. Zulu mentions that they have fought together in the past before Noah lost his grip on reality, suggesting that he may have been a member of Duty long ago.

Some time after the Stingray helicopters crashed, he was confronted by Captain Tarasov and the rest of the Stingray 3 and 5 survivors, which resulted in a tense standoff even though Noah was outnumbered eleven to one. Noah and the military eventually came to an agreement, and he guided the survivors to Pripyat before returning to Zaton.

Noah's tame Pseudodog named "Lassie"

Noah is located in Zaton, living in his Ark with his tamed pseudodog named Lassie.

Unlike other stalkers in the game, Noah's behavior is unique in that he will always shoot the door of his ark open whenever the player attempts to open it; this may deal damage to the player, thus making it advisable to stand clear of the door when opening it to avoid collateral damage. Afterwards, the player must talk to Noah to calm him down and have him lower his weapon, which will prompt him to welcome the player aboard his ark.

In order to reach the crash site of Stingray 3, the player has to work with Noah who many stalkers claim is the only person who can safely traverse to the site. He will guide the player to the Space Anomaly near the Burnt farmstead anomaly. Later in the story, Noah can be asked to accompany the player to Pripyat but he declines.

Noah is also in possession of the extremely rare Compass artifact. Two of them, in fact, and he will give them to the player if asking for it, although only after a specific side mission has been obtained. Asking for more will send him into a frenzy, causing him to become hostile and shoot at the player until they leave the area.

Related missions[]

  • Getting to the Plateau: The player must talk to Noah regarding a possible route to the Southern Plateau where the Stingray 3 helicopter has crashed.
  • Compass: The player must talk to Noah regarding the Compass artifact wanted by Beard.

Ending[]

Noah only has one ending slide which is displayed only if he is alive at the end of the game. It tells the story of a group of stalkers who sought refuge in Noah's ark to hide from an emission. They were then attacked by a horde of snorks, which were repelled by the Ark's structure as well as Noah who led a litter of pseudodog puppies into battle against the snorks.

Trivia[]

  • Noah is a biblical reference to a man in the Book of Genesis, who was instructed by God to build an ark and fill it up with a pair of every animal on Earth, along with his own family. God was planning on exterminating humanity with a great flood due to their devolving evil society. This was the basis for Noah in Call of Pripyat, who did build an ark from the wreckage of an old ship, which - according to his ending - shielded him and a group of stalkers from a particularly powerful emission and a subsequent horde of snorks.
  • "Lassie" is the name of Noah's pseudodog. The name is most likely a nod to Lassie, a collie dog from the 1940s novel and movie adaptation Lassie Come Home.
  • Should the player harm Noah, Lassie will automatically attack the player. She is however, no tougher than a regular pseudodog. Noah will also attack the player if they shoot Lassie.
  • Noah has a very high amount of health, to the point where it would take over 100 rounds from an 5.45x39mm assault rifle or several headshots to drop him or two point-blank explosions from RGD-5 grenades. This was most likely done to prevent him from dying to the environment or dying to the player in case of an accidental discharge.
  • Killing Noah will not prevent the player from obtaining his two Compasses and his PDA which explains how to reach the location of the Stingray crash site.
  • If Noah is killed either by the player or Bandits, Loners will reside in his ark.
  • Unlike many other stalkers, Noah's name and infamous reputation is far reaching across the center of the Zone. Several stalkers and the Military are aware of him. In fact, he is mentioned at least once in every area of the game.
