The Ruchnoy Protivotankoviy Granatomyot, model 7 (Hand-Held Antitank Grenade Launcher, model 7) called RPG-7u in games, is a rocket launcher appearing in all three S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games.

Contents

BackgroundEdit

It is a widely-produced, portable, shoulder-launched, anti-tank rocket propelled grenade launcher made in the former Soviet Union during the 1960s and continued be produced and serve in many military and militia forces for more than 50 years with most countries modernizing the weapon with several rails and attachments.

OverviewEdit

In the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, it is the only rocket launcher to be featured and it is a very rare weapon, best for taking out vehicles you might meet in the game and flushing out large troop concentrations. It rarely appears in any of the games, understandably however, because of its devastating firepower, scarce ammunition and general lack of suitable targets. Also note that the RPG's rockets are not 100% accurate and there is a good chance it will miss small targets at long range, even if the sight is dead-centered on target.

In all games, the grips and the shoulder guard of the RPG tube are made of a synthetic material.

Appearances Edit

Shadow of ChernobylEdit

Two RPGs can be found in the Dark Valley; one on the top floor of the building that contains the entrance to Lab X-18, the other is in lab X-18, in the Pseudogiant lair deep underground. Other locations include: a Mercenary corpse in the Wild Territory, near professor Kruglov when you first meet him. A Monolithian in the Red Forest wields an RPG, you will find one spare rocket on him. With version 1.0005 its possible you will not find the launcher at the checkpoint in the Red Forest. And several Monolithians carry one in Pripyat, they tend to keep to higher grounds. There are two you can pick up before you enter the stadium, one near the Monolith Sculpture (he is located on a round-shaped elevation, but its very possible to jump to it), and another Monolith soldier is atop of a building which is near the Whirligig anomaly behind the UAZ on the left side of Pripyat. You must shoot him at an angle to make it fall down.Three more are on the other side of it after you leave Pripyat but before the NPP. Even more Monolith fighters carry an RPG at the Chernobyl NPP, before and after the Emission.

The RPG in Shadow of Chernobyl is also absurdly overpowered as its explosion negates any cover a target may be hiding, including solid rocks and thick concrete walls, and deals full damage in it's detonation radius, regardless of how far it exploded from the target. The only way to survive an RPG rocket here was to sprint away from it as far as possible, it is virtually impossible to withstand it, even with an Exoskeleton.

Clear SkyEdit

In Clear Sky, the RPG-7u was now toned down to be more realistic. It's damage is now dependent on how close the target is to it's AoE and it now takes into account the cover the target is in, meaning that a target in solid cover has a chance to survive an indirect RPG round, provided they're armored enough. \ It is also less common; the first being sold by Hermit in the Loner base in Agroprom. Hog will give you the coordinates of one in the base in the Army Warehouses for free. Certain Clear Sky troopers and Monolith troops carry one near the end of the game. As for it's ammunition, it's VERY scarce. Nimble can give you the location of one warhead in the swamps for 2000 RU. Hermit also has the stash coordinates for a warhead; the stash is located in the Agroprom Underground, but you can't get it after flooding the underground. Raven can provide the coordinates of a stash in the Army Warehouses that has another warhead. Two more stashes contain RPG warheads; one at the Garbage inside a safe in the middle of a swamp and the last in the Red Forest near Forester's outpost in the trunk of a derelict car.

Call of PripyatEdit

In Call of Pripyat, the RPG returns as it did in Clear Sky. While the weapon is rare, ammunition for it is far easier to get compared to the last two games.

The RPG-7 only appears once in the hands of the enemies – Mercenaries who are working as Jackal and Serbin's personal guards in the mission One Shot. The RPG-7 can only be found in two places in the entire game, the Volkhov AA Complex armory and the basement of the Pripyat Grocery Store, hidden very well behind a beam on a slope of rubble on the very bottom floor. However, nearly every weapons trader will stock ammunition for it, and after advancing far enough and earning the A Wealthy Client Achievement it can be purchased from either Owl or Hawaiian regardless of faction lines, along with the much more portable Bulldog 6.

The rocket speed is more or less the same at roughly 15 km/h. The weapon is incredibly useful in Trapper's monster-hunting quests – it can one shot any of the opponents he sends you to dispatch, even the Chimera. Only a Pseudogiant can withstand a direct hit.

TriviaEdit

Note that in an unpatched version of Shadow of Chernobyl, once the player chooses to unload the weapon, the rocket will not spawn in the inventory and the launcher will be empty, forcing the player to load a new one.

No more problems with version 1.0005 in regards to the rocket launcher or the rockets.
