All the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games use the X-Ray engine, though different versions of it.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl[]

Lighting settings: Can be set from "Static Lighting" to "Full Dynamic Lighting". Static Lighting uses a DX 8 render, whilst "Object Dynamic Lighting" use DX 9 and DX9.0c respectively. Very taxing option, but also has a big effect on image quality and in-game atmosphere and realism.

Resolution: Choose your maximum screen resolution. Only go lower if the extra frame rates are badly needed.

Quality Preset: From minimum to maximum. Big impact on image quality and frames per second.

Advanced:

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky[]

Clear Sky uses X-Ray version 1.5.

Lighting settings: Can be set from "Static Lighting" to "Enhanced Full Dynamic Lighting (DX10)". Static Lighting uses a DX 8 render, whilst "Object Dynamic Lighting" use DX 9 and DX9.0c respectively. Enhanced Full Dynamic Lighting uses practically all the DX9 features, including even better shadows and soft water. The DX10 version adds even better shadow quality, better HDR, Dynamic rainmaps and volumetric smoke. Very taxing option, but also has a big effect on image quality and in-game atmosphere and realism.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat[]

Call of Pripyat uses X-Ray version 1.6. It adds DX11 support which means all the features of DX10 including Tesselation and contact hardening shadows.
