High quality modified SSP-99 suit. It provides increased body protection from bullet and splinter damage. It is designed for the guards working with scientific expeditions. It provides good protection from radiation and biological anomalies. It is resistant to chemically aggressive environments and other effects dangerous to the body.
― In-game description

The SSP-99M suit is a protective bodysuit designed for scientific expeditions into the Zone. While it appears in all games, it is available to the player only in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl.

Appearances[]

Shadow of Chernobyl[]

This suit is a high quality modification of the basic/regular SSP-99 Ecologist suit with the sole external difference between the two being only in their colours - while the standard SSP-99 is of dark-orange, the SSP-99M appears in light-green colour. However, while the differences between their design itself are literally non-existent, the differences in their characteristics are large. The SSP-99M provides incomparably better body protection from bullets and splinters, as it was designed for guards working with scientific expeditions (while the SSP-99 is not designed for combat and thus, does not provide good protective-characteristics in these terms).

Like the basic SSP-99, this suit also comprises a closed-cycle breathing module and an integrated anomalous field suppression system, which explains its same characteristics in that context. However, while the anomaly and radiation protection is roughly equal to that of the SSP-99 (making the two unmatched in those terms of all suits found in the game) it features far higher bullet protection which is equal to that of the SEVA Suit. Furthermore, it actually offers 10% better explosion and burn protection as well as 20% better chemical burn than the SEVA suit, while it even weighs two kilos less and, surprisingly, it is cheaper in the same time. All of this combined with a second-generation night vision device make it one of the very best suits in the Zone with only two disadvantages: price and pretty poor durability. However, these two issues in fact refer only to the patched versions of the game, since the suits in the unpatched game (the original box-version) depleted extremely slowly and had sensibly lower price.

Acquisition[]

Prior to the game being patched, the only existing disadvantage of this suit was its acquisition, since it could be obtainable exclusively as a reward for completing the Bring the unique bodysuit mission given by Sakharov (which is not repeatable as many other side-quests are, what means that the suit could be obtainable only a single time). However, since the suits in pre-patched game wear-out extremely slowly as stated previously, this was practically not a serious issue, since the received suit can still be used for a very long time (like all the other suits in non-patched version of the game). In patched versions, the suit finally becomes available, as it is sold by Sakharov - but only after the main mission regarding the Lab X-16 is completed (however, it also becomes very easily worn-out and has much higher price).

Clear Sky[]

The suit can still be seen in front of Sakharov's workspace in the mobile lab. It is, however, unobtainable.

Call of Pripyat[]

SSP-99Ms can be seen in front of Novikov's window in the Scientists' bunker. If the player hires Sokolov for the mission Pripyat 1, he will wear this suit. It seems to retain its abilities from Shadow of Chernobyl, as Sokolov is more resistant than Vano and Zulu who wear the SEVA suit and the PSZ-9Md Universal Protection, respectively. Later in Pripyat, Serbin and his team (including Barchuk) are all seen wearing the suit.

Trivia[]

  • Sakharov mentions that their suits are unmatched in radiation protection due to the high-quality materials and helmet, as well as a special coating he uses which comes from the Urchin artifact.
  • Professor Kruglov is the only alive NPC to wear the SSP-99M suit in Shadow of Chernobyl. However, despite the fact that he is wearing one of the very best and most armoured suits in the game, for unknown reasons, he can still be very easily killed by Mercs during his escort in the Wild Territory and later also by Zombified Stalkers (even by the ones armed with some of the weakest firearms in-game, such as Akm 74/2Us or Viper 5s), while taking measurements in Yantar, as a part of Find the documents in Lab X16 main quest (as if he is wearing the much weaker SSP-99 suit). The only feature that he is safe of are the Burner anomalies in the tunnel of Wild Territory (which he always successfully traverses and what also proves that his suit actually has the same characteristics of the much weaker SSP-99). This can be also additionally observed if Kruglov gets killed back in the Wild Territory and is replaced by Assistant Semenov upon player entering the Scientist bunker in Yantar. Despite the fact that Semenov will wear the much weaker SSP-99 (the basic/orange version), he can be killed with roughly the same ease as Kruglov, who, ironically, wears the much stronger suit. This simultaneously means that having Semenov instead of Kruglov during the escort for taking measurements in Yantar will literally have no difference in toughness of the mission, as both of them can be killed by Zombies with the same ease.
  • The suit can be also seen on up to three corpses of Ecologists found in the Red Forest area (although, their appearance is random and is actually defined by starting a new game, so they can be sometimes also found wearing the regular/orange SSP-99 instead).
