Oh, hey! Trying to score some artifacts too, eh?
― Sledgehammer

Sledgehammer (Russian: Кувалда / Kuvalda) is a Loner who appears only in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat.

Background[]

He is an artifact hunter hired by Beard and one of the few Stalkers who have the Svarog detector.

Appearances[]

Call of Pripyat[]

He and his fellow hunter Crest only appear when the player takes one of Beard's artifact orders. Sledgehammer plays by the rules, unlike Tuna who may assault the player at the Dredge Station. Sledgehammer and Crest will rarely interfere with the player, but they seem to expect the same lack of interference should they get the artifact. Once he has acquired the artifact, there are only a few ways to handle the situation to work out in your favor:

  • Let him go.
  • Buy the artifact off of him from his trade window- this greatly reduces the profit of the quest, but the player will still get some money back.
  • Give him a 'high-quality shooter' in return - usually a mid-tier or high-tier assault rifle with some kind of upgrades will work.
  • Kill him.
  • In rare cases after getting the artifact he will be killed by zombies or mutants, in which case just loot the corpse.

If the player opts to kill Sledgehammer and Crest, Beard will no longer give any artifact orders, stating that the last team he hired disappeared, and the stigma has resulted in him unable to hire any more. Sledgehammer isn't that tough a fight, however, if the player is feeling evil.

As an alternative, a player who isn't too keen on artifact hunting can take the order, and track down Sledgehammer or Crest once they acquire the artifact, and barter it off of them and simply not turn it into Beard. This can be preferable when it comes to finding rare artifacts such as the Firefly and Bubble.
