Stashes are item caches left behind by stalkers for a number of reasons, such as temporary storage. Stashes come in a number of locations throughout the Zone and one needs to learn of the coordinates of a certain stash to access its contents, otherwise the stash will be empty. One can also use emptied stash locations to store items you might need for future events. A word of advice though: keep stash locations remembered, as they will not be displayed on radar. As much as possible keep them in known locations, such as inside faction bases.
Items inside stashes can be a wide variety of items, medical equipment, ammunition, armors, weaponry and artifacts, although all stashes have specific contents and are never randomized. Most of the time you will have to get stash locations by searching dead bodies of stalkers (including zombified stalkers) and they will give a random stash coordinate. Them giving the coordinates and chances of them giving it are completely random, once you obtain coordinates of a stash it will be displayed on your PDA as a violet circle with 3 triangles inside, you will also be prompted with a ping. However, in Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat, ammunition containers near outposts throughout the Zone and in faction bases might contain some supplies that can be used by the player.
Shadow of Chernobyl Edit
Stash locations can be obtained from dead men and some specific stashes from the Snitch . They are level and storyline dependent - some will not be unlocked until the player reaches a certain rank or completes a certain story mission.
Clear Sky Edit
One can buy the coordinates of Stashes from a number of NPCs such as Barmen and traders. Sometimes the dealer knows the contents of the stash and sometimes he doesn't, leaving it up to instinct and intuition to guess its contents. The more expensive the coordinates, generally the better the quality of loot contained inside. This is a good way of saving cash as most of the time the contents of the stash are more valuable than the price of its coordinates, if you of course mind traveling a short (sometimes long) distance to gain access to it.
Call of Pripyat Edit
Most stash locations in Call of Pripyat are gained through completing certain missions. However, you don't have to have the stash location marked on your map, as all stashes are spawned at the beginning of the game. Not all stashes are necessarily inside a container, some are items grouped together.
