"Tunder" 5.45 is a unique variant of Tunder S14 assault rifle, modified to fire the 5.45x39mm caliber, featured in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat (known as the Storm).
It is not available separately in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky; instead, every Tunder S14 can be converted to 5.45x39mm by selecting the appropriate upgrade.

| “ | The given barrell is the excellent work of one of the stalkers-craftsmen who managed to work the rifle to by able to fit the more widespread 5.45 mm bullet. - Ingame description | ” |
Note: Incorrect "barrell" spelling is present in game description.
The most important thing about Tunder 5.45 is that, despite being chambered in 5.45x39mm, it has the same damage value as its 9x39mm parent. This makes it the clear-cut best 5.45mm caliber weapon in the game. While it won't do as much damage as the normal Tunder because of worse ammunition modifiers, the 5.45mm ammunition is much more common, lighter and has better range. All in all, it's an excellent weapon that can be relied on through the entire game, especially if the player buys it from Sidorovich (see Locations).
Clear Sky
Edit
Though no pre-modified version of this weapon exists, any Tunder S14 can be upgraded to use 5.45x39mm rounds by most mechanics.
Call of Pripyat
Edit
| “ | An experimental version of an assault rifle and grenade launcher system, a Russian modification of the standard Tunder S14, this weapon was specially designed for units operating in the Zone. Notable for its increased magazine capacity. - Ingame description | ” |
This weapon has a few more differences compared to the standard version. Apart from the 5.45 caliber, this weapon has a new name, now being known as the Storm. It features an increased magazine capacity (30 rounds compared to 20), added 3-shot burst firing mode, faster firing rate, improved accuracy and less muzzle climb. Also, unlike the regular version, it can mount a PSO-1 Scope or any other Warsaw Pact scope by default. However, it also deals less damage than the standard weapon, though still most of all 5.45mm caliber weapons. The Storm still has noticeable bullet drop, despite the higher velocity projectiles, but this can be negated via upgrades. Fully upgraded, it can arguably be the best Warsaw Pact weapon in the game, and can compete with the higher-end NATO weapons, despite its smaller caliber.

Shadow of Chernobyl
Edit
At the beginning of a new campaign, the "Tunder" 5.45 may also be bought from Sidorovich. From the moment you start a new game he will randomly offer the weapon for sale at a price of 20 000 RU. It is somewhat rare but can be coaxed to appear in the trader inventory by reloading. However, the "Tunder" 5.45 will only appear UP UNTIL the Marked One speaks to Wolf after defeating the Bandits that captured Nimble. Speaking to Wolf after rescuing Nimble will immediately and permanently remove the "Tunder" 5.45 from Sidorovich's inventory.
This weapon is also held by Barin, who can be found in Rostok, the Duty checkpoint at the Garbage, or the Army Warehouses. Though initially based in Rostok, he will take the place of any Duty NPC stationed at the checkpoint in Garbage who is killed. Other replacements who go to the checkpoint may also have the weapon. Sometimes, the replacement may be killed by the dogs living south of Rostok. His weapon will be dropped.
Call of Pripyat
Edit
In Call of Pripyat, the Tunder 5.45 (now known as the Storm) has fallen into Nimble's possession, and can be purchased at any point for the modest sum of 20 000 RU by ordering an assault weapon, although the sequence where one obtains the actual weapon is random.
Trivia
Edit
- In reality, there is no 5.45x39mm variant of the OTs-14 Groza, though the caliber was considered during the weapon's design stages, a few testbed weapons were made however. There was, however, a variant chambered for the older 7.62x39mm round (made famous by the AK-47), using a 30-round magazine and the same grenade launcher.
- The 5.45 version was going to be called the "Groza-2." In-game, it should be distinguished from the 9x39 version by the use of AK-74 mags. The 7.62x39mm version was called the "Groza-1." The 9x39/40mm configuration seen in all S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games is the OC-14-4A.
