Yurik (Ru. Юрик) is a minor character who appears in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl.

Background[]

Rookie. Is breaking ground in the Zone[non-game. 1]. He is a member of Bes' group.

Appearances[]

Shadow of Chernobyl[]

The player encounters Yurik during their first visit to the Garbage, at the entrance of the area, where he is being held at gunpoint by three bandits all clad in leather trench coats. They will repeatedly ask him to hand over all of his money and artifacts, despite Yurik insisting he has neither. Eventually, they will gun him down once they realize he holds nothing of value.

When the player comes into his field of view, he will ask for help and the bandits will turn hostile. He is very likely to get killed in the ensuing shootout, as he starts off in the middle of the crossfire when the battle begins, and he is woefully under-equipped. One strategy to keep him alive is to quickly pick the bandits off one by one before they turn hostile. Another is to shoot any of the bandits in the head with a silenced pistol; this will enable Yurik to run that way and hide behind the car, after which he and the player can kill the remaining bandits.

In the event he survives, he will thank the player and inform them about Bes and the impending bandit raid, and proceed to join Bes' group to defend the scrapyard. If Yurik survives the shootout, then he will wander off, either going to the Far outpost in the Cordon, or joining Seriy in the Depot.

Trivia[]

  • Yurik's robbers are in fact not bandits but free stalkers as one can see when looking at the "Contacts" section of the PDA or when searching them.
    • Because of this, if real bandits wander into the robbers' field of view, they will attack them alongside Yurik. Once the battle is over, the robbery scene will resume as normal.
    • The robbers may also join Bes' group and help him against the Bandits should they survive.
  • Interestingly, Yurik's character model appears to be incomplete, as noticed by looking at the backpack's straps which were only rendered partially.
  • When asking him about the Garbage, he will say that "Oh well, at least there ain't no Hound of the Baskervilles in the Mire!". This is a reference to Arthur Conan Doyle's novel The Hound of the Baskervilles, which is part of Doyle's series of novels featuring Sherlock Holmes. "Mire" is a reference to the Grimpen Mire, a location prominently featured in the novel.
